I have lost four chickens in the 2 years I have had them. 2 were to our yellow lab when she got off her run on 2 occassions. She was about 7mos old then, and I think she prob. thought they were toys unfortuneately. That was very hard, I cried and cried! Then I have lost 2 on separate occasions that I found dead in the coop, looking like they were just asleep. I have no idea what happened to each of these hens, but chalked it up to just like all living things, some have genetic, heart issues, ect. Thankfully everyone else is healthy and loving the warm weather back again. This is a pic of our current chicken pen. We will be modifying it this summer so that the dog can be back in a pen again. (not with the chickens of course!
