Last year was the first year I tried to save seeds. I did no pollinating, just open pollination. I collected the seed pods as they ripened, I didn't think I lost any. Other blooming lilies in the area were trimmed first after flowering (to give the energy back to the bulb, not to the seed pods), then after frost. The seeds I threw into a baggy and many of them sprouted and are growing fine in my basement, soon to be phased outdoors. I was surprised anything came of those seeds inside....but outside?? I have purposefully tried to sow directly outside, with ultimate failure. They sure look like lily seedlings sprouting. I'm awestruck really. That's pretty good germination for not trying. Weird. This never happens. Kind of exciting.... |
