Soulja - The flower that you posted here http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=4734489 Looks like "Fuji No Sora" as entered in the PlantFiles here http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/139202/ The youjiro "Chiaki" as entered in the PlantFiles here http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/137871/ can also produce similar looking flowers Generally for any and all interested... The PlantFiles of 'Mt.Fuji Pale Purple' was first entered as the result of a term applied by an ebay marketer when the correct Japanese Romaji names were not yet known to many ebayers and it is my perspective that the photo entered here http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/77108/ is likely to be either one of the youjiro like "Chiaki" http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/137871/ that is not showing very distinct white rays along the main folds... Western marketing names can be confounding if the terms do not reflect primary structures or features...the term 'picotee' which should refer to a color(!) is often misapplied to the Kikyo shaped(!) flowers and misleading terminology can consequently be confusing to those with intermediate levels of knowledge and most especially confusing for newbies trying to ascertain any objective 'rationale' involved regarding the consistent application of descriptive terms... http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/adv_search.php?searcher[com... it is much more helpful to everyone(!) when entries are entered correctly initially as it is very difficult to subsequently have entries corrected... There have been many light blue colored flowers that look like the photo here http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/137871/ being marketed as 'Blue Picotee' or as 'Light Blue Picotee" http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/141295/ and exactly where a youjiro with indistinct white rays leaves off and where a 'blue picotee' with lighter folds begins may be exacerbated by the progeny of undocumented crossings and 'fuzzy' labeling... I would like to strongly suggest that sports and atypical colorations should not automatically be entered as representatives into the PlantFiles but would better serve the community by first being grown out for several generations and gathering input from the MG community before being entered with a 'new' name... atypical colors and structures can always be enthusiastically displayed in the Forums and in personal journals without confounding the PlantFiles... Fuji Musume http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/171371/ can be a light blue that looks very similar to what is being called 'Blue Picotee' The word "Fuji" when applied to flowers does not automatically refer to a bloom with white primary folds, but 'fuji' is very often used to describe anything that is considered to be 'big',considerable, outstanding et cetera...so there are JMG's described in Romaji that use the terms "Fuji" but have features other than very distinct white main folds,e.g., Fujigasume http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/84334/ Fuji Shibori http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/84503/ The Pale Purple photos here http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/86669/ have come out of the usually much darker colored "Fuji no Muraski" here http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/139460/ and Sakata has even used a lavender colored flower in their official webpage for "Fuji no Murasaki" http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=1700985 Just some some aspects to be considered... TTY,... Ron P.S. photo attached is of some of the Sakata Fujis including a very lavender "Fuji no Murasaki" in the lower right...the original "Fuji no Mine" can be seen in the upper right where the midpetal is a fuchsia overlaying a strong blue which emerges near the petal crest producing a very striking contrast of colors... The "Fuji no Mine" most prevalent no longer produces the striking contrast of the reddish fuchsia and the blue, but is more of a 'monotone' lacking the strong bi-colored visual zinger(!) |
