plantladylin wrote: Good morning ladies! Well ... not so warm and toasty here this morning! We had a freaky cold front come through and it got down to 41 here last night! I moved orchids and hoyas inside and just threw blankets over everything else out on the deck. Very unusual cold spell for this time of year for us! We've had daytime temps in the mid 80's and nights in the low to mid 60's so this was a bit of a shock! I can't complain though ... 40's don't bother me ... it's when we get down in the 30's that I want to hibernate. It is chilly this morning but beautiful and sunny! I wasn't on line much at all last week. Hubby was home all week (Spring Break at the college) so we got a lot of stuff done out in the yard! We had hoped to take the boat out a time or two but were so busy with yard work that we never got a chance to go boating. I dug up about a dozen large hibiscus and 6 huge (really huge!) thorny asparagus ferns from both sides of the house and hubby just planted sod there. He also helped me clear out two large flower beds .... they were full of weeds. We've had more weeds this year than we can remember in the 33 years we've been in this house - all over the yard and in all the flower beds. Hubby dethatched the lawn and put down weed stuff with fertilizer and I transplanted a few knockout roses and a couple of other things. I trimmed trees and shrubbery all the way around the perimeter of the back yard and had a ton of yard debris. Gave my neighbor a sapling maple tree that I've had sitting in a pot for a few years and a knock out rose I couldn't fit in, along with a couple of other plants I couldn't find a place to plant. We worked out in the yard for 8 straight days and my body sure is feeling it! I'm glad it's all done except for a couple of spots where we need to get more sod down. All I will have to do now is mow once a week! There's still a pile of red sand to shovel and spread on the lawn but I think I will let hubby do that in his spare time ... I'm too achy to do any more for a couple of days at least! LOL. DH gives final exams the end of April and then he will be off until the end of June! I need to get a Honey Do list started so he can keep busy while he's off .... he hates being idle! I'm sure we will take the boat out a few times and also hope to visit some family while he's off but he will want things to do around the house too. Well, this isn't a Gessie but I found it hiding behind stuff on the desk - very, very dry, poor thing. An Anthurium with a little bloom. |
