This is usually one of my latest blooming daff's; and since it is so late blooming it often suffers with late April heat. Its very suitable for Texas, just not way down here in Texas. If they rest of the bulbs bloom early as this one is, it might look a lot better this year. Robin is into "tacky" yard art; she is 19 so there's still hope she will grow out of this. But anything that will get her interested in gardening I encourage. So she is allowed to put her art, and I use that term loosely, in the back yard. Her art is limited to ladybugs and gargoyles. I actually like the gargoyles and have found a use for the ladybugs. They mark the spot where bulbs are planted when they are dormant. That explains why the ladybug is in this shot. This one is a late blooming variety and never blooms before the end of March or April. Its Narcissus x incomparibilis 'Butter and Eggs' another heirloom in cultivation since 1777. This one has a really nice fragrance too, but I guess you will just have to imagine that. And since it was just opening up--I guess you will have to use your imagine to picture it open too. I'm certain it won't look very nice tomorrow. |
