I'm thinking that the planter is enclosed and sitting in the water. Diehard, most of the older trees in the Keyes are long gone from Hurricanes. What's left is probably some more recent plantings so it is understandable that they would look thinner. Some also may be not cared for properly. Lou, my Singapores don't lose their leaves here either. If it gets cold enough, even evergreen plumerias will drop their leaves. The downside to Singapores is the Black Tip which is almost inevitable every year, but the fragrance makes it worthwhile. By the way, anyone can bring home cuttings from Hawaii. You just have to clean them well with soap and water, remove all the leaves, and have them inspected at the Ag station at the airport. If you bring a box with masking tape to the Ag station, the inspectors will seal them up for the airplane ride. I know people who have brought home suitcases full after having them inspected at the airport. |
