I've discovered a little secret that helps my "Bird Food Bill".
At about 5:20 pm, just after the sun goes down, and my back yard is shaded and cold, the thousands of sparrows go to roost, and leave my yard.
At that time, about Eight couples of Cardinals come back to my yard for feed.
If I wait until the Sparrows leave, and then go out and put bird seed out, the Cardinals don't have to compete, and can eat in peace.
The same is true in the early morning, before the Sun comes up.
The Cardinals are the first on the scene, so I'm sure to put some up at night for them the next morning.

Here is a wide picture taken from my back door.
They're hard to see, but there is about Eight birds in this pic.
Early Saturday morning, I counted Eight males, and about Six females.
There are also feeders to the left and right of the picture.
