How large is your pond? Do you already have fish? Not an expert, but the size and movement of the water will have a great effect on how the particles on the rock will mesh with the present ecosystem. Mine came into balance very quickly - I just washed them off before putting them in. You'll see limestone in the pics I've sent, but it is actually barely in the water - haven't had any problem with it and it's been three years. The limestone was in our back yard (woodland).
