Yes they are! We got this Stokes brand feeder about 6 or 7 years ago at Lowe's (they don't sell it anymore and haven't carried it for years) and we're still using it! The birds love it! It's heavy so I only fill BOSS in the 'pits' (lol, that's what I call them), the area where the birds get the seeds at.

DH took this 6/26/07 in the morning when we were blessed to see and have the male Rose Breasted Grosbeak migrating through. You can see in the photo what I'm referring to.
