This time of year, we are all busy preparing our plants for winter.

I am saving seeds and rooting cuttings. The plants in ground get mulched with pinestraw and leaves which I have plenty of... that way, I can spend my money on PLANTS! Tropical plants ~ oh dear!

And this is the season where I start to PANIC! I realize I have more plants than shelter and I furiously start sorting what can go where...

A couple of years ago we built a plant shelter and the more hardy plants will overwinter here... http://davesgarden.com/community/journals/viewentry/115015/

The more tender plants will winter on an enclosed screen porch with plant lighting. The porch on truly cold nights will hover around 50 degrees. Last winter, I supplemented heat on the porch with a kero heater.

Last year, BigBubbles had a great thread on her plant shelter. It stuck in my mind as it was simple enough, efficient and can be used over again. A long thread but great ideas... http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/674265/ I believe the plant shelter info starts around the December 6, 06 post. Directions and photos make it easy to understand and could adapt to suit anyone.

Another Texas DGr Maidentheshade built her own greenhouse and this thread will take you step by step... http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/671593/ Again, her ideas might just give you inspiration.

What I am hoping for here is a sharing of ideas on what works for you.
What you want to try differently this year?
Maybe tips and hints to help us all thru the winter months ahead.

Please share your thoughts... I need them, I'm losing my mind! : ) pod
