AuntAnne,

Sorry yours aren`t doing so well. Just see what you can do about protecting them from too much heat. Morning sun and afternoon shade is working well with mine. Feed them some plant food made for blooming plants if you haven`t already. Don`t worry if yours don`t make it. You can always get more seeds and try again. All this growing things is trial and error anyway.

Any slightest drift of weedkiller will stop these plants in their tracks. They will not die from light drift from weedkiller but it will stunt growth and the blooms will be held back and the ones that do bloom will look funny all twisted and not open all the way. Your neighbors may have sent some weedkiller drift your way. If it is not severe they can recover and continue within a few weeks.

Sometimes, a vine that doesn`t like the spot where you put it will fail to thrive even when good care is given. I have some spots I will not grow the nils because they failed to thrive in those areas. The same flowers put on a big show in other areas so I have a map in my mind of my yard for spots where I can grow these plants successfully.

beckygardener, Yours are looking great! That dark star is a ray pattern. I expect now for some pink ones to show this trait.

Here is one of mine showing the ray pattern lightening in the folds and the more developed blizzard pattern.

Ya`ll have a great day and happy growing!

Karen
