tangiegirl wrote: Happy Saturday to all. Off to a slow start today, slept til almost 8 this morning…highly unusual. Woke up to a beautiful day…mid 70’s and breezy after a nice little rain last evening. Perfect for moving the last few plants out of their pots and into the ground. Also will be expanding one of the large beds by about two feet all along its length, maybe 50’ long? I’m too lazy (and old :o) to dig sod so last Sunday’s newspaper will be put to use. Place it, wet it down, throw a little mulch on it and then layer it with pads of straw and viola…..more room to plant this fall and next spring. Liz, the baby dove is precious. How very cool that he/she(?) was hatched on your porch. Thank you for sharing. Shar…we have tons of doves here, too. There’s a very large barn that is just used for storage now that there is no livestock to be housed. I’m pretty sure that’s where most of ours are nesting, though they spend a lot of time on the back porch where the birdfeeders are. They stroll around out there every morning and we have coffee together (well, they have seed, I have the coffee) They don’t actually walk into the kitchen (I usually have both the screen and regular doors open, so that when I sit at the kitchen table, my view to the outside is unobstructed) but they are not afraid at all. I have fuchsia in hanging baskets on that porch, too, so the hummers usually come by to say good morning before heading out to the flowerbeds. Hubby watched one work every gladiola in the yard the other evening….zipped past all the other “hummingbird” flowers to make a beeline (birdline?) for the next glad, one by one, then made the rounds one more time to be sure he hadn’t missed any and off he went. Oh, Liz…free loot….great! Sorry your corn didn’t do well. We have been fortunate and our crop is looking good. I’ve gotten some mail in re seeds from a few of you and I will be making up a list of what else I have (or expect to have in the next few weeks) and reply to all in the next day or two. SASBE is fine for any who don’t want/don’t have seeds to trade. Betty, the baby dresses are beautiful. Let your friends spoil you a bit……life really is a circle and it is true that what you sow is what you reap. But you know that. We had strong winds here last night, too and I’m just about to get out of my jammies and go see if I need to do any damage repair in the yard. We were a little more fortunate with the rain, though and so I needn’t water this weekend, for a change. Gita…..I change my photo every little while….used to have one of me on there but I got bored with it and changed it a few weeks ago. I agree, I love to put a face on the names and will stick one of mine onto the end of this post. The house was built in the early 1700’s and was a working farm until about 30 years ago. Now we just lease the two big fields (about 60 acres) to a neighboring farmer. The house inside is typical for that time period in this area. The bottom floor (built into a bank) is the kitchen. Next floor up is the living room, next floor up from that is the bath and two rooms. One is the master bedroom and the other was originally another bedroom, but as we have no closet space, it is now a closet. The stairs are interesting, I think, I call them pie wedge steps, as they are not exactly spiral but sort of. I’ll post some pics, it might be easier than trying to explain. The fourth floor is the loft and until last month was occupied by number one son, who just moved to Delaware to be closer to work. When we moved here, we found that most of our furniture would not go up the stairs. We ended up sawing our bed in half and hoisting it up the outside of the house and through a window. After ten years, I don’t even notice that the dresser and highboy from my bedroom set is still in the living room and always will be. The floors are wood planking and at some point were painted a dark brown. I’d love to strip it down and just stain it, but that’s a project I keep putting off, year after year, because I’ve lived in houses during renovations before and it is not on my top ten list of fun things to do. Time to get moving, will be back later to catch up with the rest of you…..Gita here I am with the third pup…this is the littlest one, Meeka, often called Meeks (someone asked me to post him, too…can’t remember who right now, but here we are). Mr. Meeks may only be seven pounds but if you ask him, he will tell you he is “Large and in Charge”. When the mood strikes and we play Frisbee, he waits for the dobe to get it and bring it back. He intercepts Bart when he’s about ten feet away from the thrower and jumps up and bites his lips. Bart drops the Frisbee and Meeks, the mighty, drags it back the rest of the way to be thrown again.
