tomatomaniac wrote: This is somewhat of a first for me with Hibiscus. Just yesterday I found some very small apparently black coloured specks running around on a somewhat "distorted" bud. You could see that this bud was most likely NOT going to eventually bloom. I tried raising Roses down here in SE-TX years ago but gave up due in no small part to Thrips. I assume that Thrips love to infest more than Roses and can only assume that this might be what I have spotted. I usually use some sort of a thin gardening oil or Neem. However, due to this intense heat we're having I don't dare risk it. Been there, done that, in the past.........never again!...........LoL. I was thinking of insecticidal soap, Spinosid, Pyrethrins, and as a last resort.........Cygon (an organophosphate). I rarely have used Cygon and actually swore would never use it again, but sometimes down here the bugs can get so bad that you have to resort to "ThermoNuclear" combat!.........LoL. I read somewhere here in Dave's that Bayer "granules" is a good overall insecticide above and below ground. Thanks for any help anyone might afford me. Regards, Tomatomaniac P.S. That is NOT the black bug I mentioned......LoL. This is just another one of my Hibiscus amongst my Zinnias with a visiting Bumble Bee. |
