critterologist wrote: Ruby -- a question about a yellow DL on the pinks thread? Really! LOL. I love 'Happy Returns'. It's a clear, daffodil/lemon yellow, and it'll bloom all summer long. 'Stella d'Oro' is more of a gold color, almost like black-eyed susans.... if you see a big patch of gold DLs at a shopping center or along the road, they're probably Stellas. I bought a 'Purple d'Oro' at an end of summer sale last year, and it's given me a couple of blooms. I agree, the color is a rose-lavender shade, and it's really beautiful! I can't wait for it to grow into a big blooming clump! Ponds... I was just eyeing a plastic liner at WalMart yesterday... I think it's just 35 gallons, pretty small but a good size/shape to go in front of my deck landing. I don't know anything about growing water lilies or overwintering them, but I'd sure like to try them! Maybe a trip out to Lilypons is in order this week.... If nothing else, I'll pick up a plant to put in my big (20") water garden pot, which now holds only a defunct fountain! 'Happy Returns' is a Darryl Apps hybrid... this is another of his rebloomers, 'Romantic Returns'. The flower in this photo is a little "tired," but this DL has been putting out lots of blooms for me this summer... it would be a good pairing with 'HR' if you get that one! |
