I am growing them along a fence - have 2 mature ones and 2 new ones ( I had to remove 2 mature ones as they were mislabelled and wrong color )
Just be careful when you purchase - Clematis are so often mislabelled as to bloom color that I never buy one now unless it actually has flowers on it so I can be sure!
This is my clematis fence a couple of years ago. The growth is so thick on the south end now that probably next year I will prune it off after flowering .
