This was my solution to another common water gardening problem. Lots of folks buy a named water lily from a company, but then 5 or 10 years later they can't remember what it is.

A friend was throwing out PLASTIC WINDOW BLINDS. I would only use PLASTIC because if you had spawning goldfish or koi metal blinds might hurt them if they banged up against the metal blind. Plus, I don't know if metal blinds would rust and pollute the water. I write all the info on the plastic blind strip real heavy with a permanent marker like 'Sharpie'.

The stuff I want to know is: date planted, color, name of water lily and sometimes who gave it to me. I run the strip from the plastic blind across the bottom of the pot.
