Daylilies pictures should be taken an hour or 2 after the sun comes up, if you wait until early evening, the flower is faded and ready to close. Unless it's nocturnal, then it's just starting to open. If you take it to early in the morning it's not fully open.

This first picture was taken mid-day....notice the splotches on the petals?
