Plants, like people and animals, often contract pathogens after they have been stressed; healthy plants may have diseases in their soil and on them, but will not suffer until environmental conditions stress them and make them susceptable.

Because it only appears on one cultivar, (and I know it is not frost damage nor mechanical damage), I think it is a virus and will not take any risks, destroying the plants.
