Water Gardening: water lilies or iris for pond, 1 by prettypeony

This is a picture of the pond in front of our house. I am interested in expanding my gardening to the pond, but am concerned about what to put in it that will not take over. The pond is fenced, but there is one end that is accessible to cattle. The pond also has catfish. Is there a hardy water lily that would not become invasive? How do you plant them? Can you put siberian or Louisiana iris at the edge of the pond where there would be times when it was in standing water? Any discussion or pictures of your pond would be helpful. Thanks a bunch!
