Last year, the tadpoles of my green frogs didn't make it to the stage of frog. This might be caused because they started mating very late in the season, it was a very chilly spring then. Another reason or part of it could be that my pond only gets half-shadow in spring-summer and tadpoles need a lot of warmth and sun to mature.
(I learned this because, once I gave about a hundred of the toad tadpoles away to a person who has a pond which is situated in full sun. The tadpoles in that pond developed at least twice as fast as the ones remaining in mine.).

I didn't know either that tadpoles can survive the winter and continue with their development the next spring.
