The sweetest thing about spring is watching the mother birds tend their babies. The little babywings rush the mom when they see her, flap their wings rapidly, and tilt their heads back with their beaks open wide. They're just precious! Some can eat by themselves a while, but still rush the mom when she comes near... She dutifully looks for the next open mouth and fills it with food. One had 3 babies rush at once and patiently tended them all.
Male Robins come and grab as many mealies as their beak can hold and fly off to feed their family..
I had to start cutting down chrysalises from the back fence, and hanging them in a critter cage.. I noticed a couple of the Gulf Fritillary chrysalids disappeared, and figure some birds have been snatching them. Oh well, I just have to stay on top of that. I want to keep all the wildlife that come back there. Finally have it set up pretty nice, and I'm thrilled with everything.. Who said we can't have it all? I think it's possible!
