......to Viburnum-o-philes who wait! Actually, I waited too long. These are little seedlings that obviously spent too much time in the fridge. I forgot about them for a couple months. These are Viburnum acerifolium collected in September of 2005. The ones with roots only are V. alnifolium collected in fall 2006(thanks to the Ellijay Gentleman!).The other seedlings are from V. sieboldii, collected in fall 2005. The 2005 crop got several 60 day rounds of cold/warm initially, till I gave up and just left them in the garage all summer, then brought them back into the fridge in the fall.

I am hoping the V. sieboldii turns out to be something interesting. It is V. sieboldii 'Wavecrest', cross pollinated by ???? At the time, I had no other V. sieboldii flowering. My handy dandy Viburnum book lists V. sieboldii in section Thyrsosma(Taxon-O-Resin may have an update on that--by the way Resin, do you know Lloyd Kenyon who wrote this Viburnum book?), and the only other member of that section is V. farreri which would have been long done flowering. So, I looked for close-by, likely suspects. The only one in full flower at the same time, and very close to this plant was V. plicatum tomentosum 'Sieboldii'. If those two actually crossed, it might make for some interesting offspring!
