I have the best luck with Coleus by finding a cultivar I !love!, Then propigate the plant by cuttings. Growing from seed has always been inconsistant for me but *different can be good*. Just to ensure I get what I want I rather clone than seed Coleus. Another thing with these beautiful tenders is to not let them go to seed. It saps the life out of the plant's foliage. If planted with flowers and bloom food is used they will tend to flower more rapidly.
Coleus is a great plant! Most do best in soft sun or shade. In 100* weather I needed to water good either late at night or early in the morning every day, unless it rained.

Shhh~~ in this pic I had let the Limelight go to flower, eek!! The do make the most psychodelic purple flowers tho' it really does sap the plant.
