Many times their Mom was hit by a car or they have been seperated and since Wood duck females do not quack, people think that Mom has left and then the well meaning people, scoop them up, take them home and call for rehab. We live on a lake, so, they don't go very far from home. In winter, they migrate about 3 miles and then will return to the lake, in the spring
