Even at this stage they were hard to remove from the container without breaking the taproot. Because it's tender and I planted out so early I did cover it with a blanket for a couple of late frosts.

Taproot plants are easy to handle if planted at a very small stage, like one or two sets of true leaves. I will sow the lupine sunrise later this year than I did last.
