sanannie wrote: Bea, I don't do any hanging baskets any more, but I saw one this year on display at a nursery that was gorgeous. It was very simple, just two kinds of plants. Lotus vine and one of the new Calibrochoa that is a light yellow with a tint of orange, if I remember correctly. It wasn't 'Terra Cotta', it was more yellow. I tried to duplicate it in a pot but by the time I saw it, the Calibrochoa was all sold out. I subbed a Million Bells bronzy-orange/peach colour and it was a real nice combo, although I have to say the bigger the better because their supersize basket made all the difference. I learned that just using two plants en masse can be beautiful. I also like the look of Golden Creeping Jenny with Sweet Potato 'Blackie' or a similar one. I think it's a nice contrast. Maybe with some coleus in there and asparagus fern. But that would be more for a shadier situation. But all foliage can be colourful too. I've also seen lovely huge baskets with pink verbena, purple verbena and silver licorice plant. That's about all I can think of for now. If I see some ideas, I'll let you know. I thought this was a showy foliage display. Taken at Chanticleer in PA a couple of years ago. Sandy |
