The seeds inside had sprouted from all the rain we were having. I decided to plant them in pots to see if I had time for another go-around and gamble with the hurricanes. Of the three Murasaki Jishi plants I grew earlier from the original seed, one was a single purple star (expected), one was a single pink star and the other was obviously a hybrid..being a lot like a Star of India type with a white speckled background. As this was my first year actually growing JMG's, and carefully collecting seed from every plant that I grew, with all of it being open pollinated with no protection, I was anxious to see how consistent the next generation would be. This might be my opportunity! Of the 8 seeds I planted, three flowered today, 34 days after planting! Two of the plants are definitely not going to be "star" type flowers , as the leaves are not wrinkled and are flat and smooth. One of them bloomed today as well as two of the star plants. here is the best one! I've been keeping a Journal on this series of plants which you can view here: http://davesgarden.com/journal/edit/viewbycat.php?cat=41856 Arlan |
