meezersfive wrote: Morning!! I wasn't in the mood for a worm this morning, so I'll gladly let Ann have it. Have a tee time at 9ish so I can't dawdle much. I had the same adjustment problems when we came back from Australia, my internal clock was messed up for about a month. Funny, I adjusted quickly after we got there. Once we got back home I was getting sleepy at all the wrong times, and not at bed time. I wouldn't have traded that trip for anything else though, I had a wonderful time and our friends were the best possible hosts. Elaine, I smiled when I read the "one clove of garlic" in the tomato recipe, I'd likely chuck in the entire bulb for that large a batch of sauce. Tomatos have been poor everywhere I think. Probably the hot weather caused the thick skins, and here, at least, the heavy rain caused them to split. But, like Maria said, there's always the farmer's market. We have the space for a good sized vegetable garden but I've thought about how much work it is when everything starts getting ripe and that stops me from doing it. I've been dithering about what to do with my wagon filled with strawberry plants. They've grown beautifully, right through the slats on the sides and down to the ground.....but they needed a better situation to survive the winter. So, in an effort to save myself some work, I decided to pull the wagon right over to the new spot by the japanese maple and hardy hibiscus where they are protected from the fierce winter weather and transfer them one by one. I had pulled out all the snapdragons, and cleared the way for the strawberries. Simple, yes? When I grabbed the handle on the wagon, it resisted and I thought it was just kind of stuck from sitting there all summer. Gave it another good tug, and PLOP pulled the front wheels and most of the bottom right off the back wheels. I had lined it with a heavy duty plastic, but too much rain did the poor old thing in. So here's what's left of my little red wagon. LOL Ended up doing a lot more work than if I had lifted them out of it one by one. DH had said earlier this week he was going to paint it and I said I liked it kind of faded and old looking....too bad I didnt let him do it LOL then he would have had the mess!! WS what a kind and generous person to donate FFmiles for you to use. Your DS will be so happy to have you there with her. What a tough time she's having, you will be a great comfort to her. On a brighter topic, wouldn't it be fun to have the time and money to do the rehab on that charming old house? It would be like what Dorothy is doing on their place, except for moving the entire building. Gave the peaches a little squeeze this morning....one more day and they'll be perfect. There'll be a mess in my kitchen for sure. I have those nice raspberries my neighbor brought over, so I'm going to make two batches of jam at the same time, and try to blend the peach and raspberry in layers just for fun. If it works, I'll take a picture.....LOL Hope Dcat, Suzi and Maria are all feeling better today. And the same for anyone else who is under the weather. No time to be sick, fall is creeping up on us like a mugger!! Time to hit the shower ~~~~ to all, bbl, off to golf this morning. We have three weeks left, because we have to play the games that were rained out. Sheila This message was edited Sep 8, 2006 6:57 AM |
