"Our" spider dropped onto the trellis frame of our raised bed from the branches of an oak tree that stands about 15ft away. There is one very long thread from the high middle branches of the oak to the trellis. She has curled up a butternut squash leaf into a bower and has sealed off the back side with a woven mesh of silk. We're wondering if she is going to leave an egg sac in the leaf. We've noticed that she only becomes active at dusk and during the dark. She seems to have very sensitive eyes. We shone the torch on her to show her to our neighbors when she crawled out of the leaf and she quickly curled up and covered all her eyes with her legs. Ours looks like the two photos on the left at this link: http://www.pbase.com/tmurray74/ghost_spiders__anyphaenidae_ So far I haven't found much information on this spider. |
