If I am growing a standard, I will strip any side shoots that come out unless I want some extra cuttings. Usually the lower leaves have fallen off on their own. I keep as many leaves on as possible when I am trying to grow it up tall though because leaves make food to help it grow fast.

If you have 2 different kinds of brugs, you just take (or a insect takes) the pollen from one and puts it on the stigma of another. It won't work if you try it on flowers from the same cultivar of brug. Here is a great thread about it written by Susie who taught a lot of us old times how to grow brugs.

If it takes, you will get a pod which has lots of seeds in it, each seed is capable of making a unique and glorious brug!
