RON_CONVOLVULACEAE wrote: Susan - Nice photo documentation of the effect that the weather can have on the flower pigments... The Pinkish colored blizzard flower may be from an Asahi or even an Ushio...there are probably more types of 'pink' JMG's than any other single color and many of these producing blooms with overlapping features with other named types...separating/classifying the differences in the named types that display overlapping features from 'different' named types is going to be a challenge... The pink Ipomoea purpurea you have has a nice rich coloration to it...Generally the medium to dark pinks have been lumped in with Crimson Rambler, but I've also seen the variations of the reds and pinks called and sold as Scarlet Rambler,Red Rambler,Rose Rambler,Pink Rambler etc,... Joseph - Thanks for the feedback on the Ipomoea lacunosa and the 'Cameo Elegance' that you are growing...may I suggest that you enter a closeup of the Lilac Ipomoea lacunosa into the PlantFiles... It seems that there are at least several variations on the Calmeo Elegance/Minibar Rose/Beni Chidori/Tsubame types...some that retain mostly dwarf features and others that display a mixture of dwarf and non-dwarf features...the plant you are growing is climbing and it may have vine stems that extend to non-dwarf lengths...but the flowers and leaves seem to be closer to a dwarf type...it will be interesting to see what length the vine finally reaches... Here's Kevins Minibar Rose with leaves that look to be a lighter color http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=2429341 http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/KevinTernes_1151196373_435.... http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/KevinTernes_1151196321_917.... Karen - Great looking bloom you got here http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/gardener2005_1156091737_435... you know to allow a few seeds for my 'Easter Basket'... interesting to copmpare the ray pattern to the one that Susan has here http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/lincolnitess_1156085690_262... Sandy - Your Star of India looks to be more of a purple-blue than most http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/Seedsower_1156092128_654.jp... http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/86675/ ...I like it... Some Royal Robes/Star of India that Janis got...for additional comparisons... http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/Woofens_1124718337_338.jpg http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/Woofens_1124459777_89.jpg http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/Woofens_1126716287_928.jpg http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/Woofens_1124459709_584.jpg http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/Woofens_1124459730_837.jpg http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/Woofens_1126824234_609.jpg http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/Woofens_1125529301_762.jpg Royal Blue Henka http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/OhioBreezy_1155238012_92.jp... http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/OhioBreezy_1155309431_750.j... looks like there are some related/similar midpetaline banding color 'equations' going on... The Ehigasa is nice http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/Seedsower_1156091846_52.jpg ...also interesting to compare to the Cornell here http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/OhioBreezy_1155912324_695.j... Pink Mutation of Star of India/Royal Robe http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/84453/ and a photo of a bloom you posted 'awhile' back... TTY,... Ron This message was edited Aug 21, 2006 9:36 AM |
