sarv - the complex that me Mither lives in is an historic hotel in her home town. It was purchased and renovated by the Methodist Church. She had put her name on their list shortly after my Father died since she knew that sooner or later she would have to move into town. Over several years they would call her as her name moved up the list and she would tell them "not yet" and her name would be rolled over. In 2000 she decided it was time and an opening was available and she hasn't looked back since. The key thing is to locate a place that is suitable and get on their list!!!! Do not wait until the last minute and get left out in the cold. This is something that needs to be thought out and planned for in advance. There are many facilities out there and it is much better to check out what is in your area ahead of time.

This goes to all who may be facing this situation for loved ones or for yourselves. PLAN AHEAD!

Sorry folks, I'll step off that soap box now with one final statement. I cannot tell you how easy my Mom made it for ALL of us by planning ahead. It has been so smoothe and so workable for her and all of the family. She also has plans in place for future care if it becomes needed. Nursing home, power of attorney, living will, organ donor - the whole nine yards. We 'kids' have no stressful decisions to be made at a possibly stressful time. We know what she wants, its in writing, and we all agree to follow her wishes.

Besides all that - she is *so* much fun to be with!

Spent today working on fixing the front hall. The carpet was at the rag end and I wanted to replace it with wood. My DH agreed and we have made great headway. I am looking forward to the finished look, but it really is fun to work on projects like this with him.
