This is a hardy hibiscus my husband bought for me at an open air market. It was a beautiful surprise, but in the process of transplanting it in a primarily unused portion of the yard it was broken. He attempted to create a splint with a stake and some zip ties. Their were 4-5 buds at the tip of the break that proceeded to bloom after the transplant and injury (it was transplanted July 2, 2006). This is what it looks like now. Should we cut all the way back since all the branches from this main branch have started to wilt/die? Even growth below the break has turned yellow and begun to die (at least this is my take on it). Please, ignore the weeds. These were cleaned out when it was transplanted, but as you can see from the other side of the chain link, our neighbors have abandoned this part of the yard, and with several heavy rain showers after transplant, these weeds have returned with vigor, almost overnight).
