GD_Rankin wrote: Awww well thanks, Actually . . . that's a painting I did after a 'major storm' we had here back in 1997. It's a long story and I'm not sure this is the place for it, so I'll just share the short version. for now :) Some may remember the first storm . . . it's the one that spawned that monster tornado that sat and churned for over a half hour, basically whipping out a large area in Jarrell. Texas in May of '97. I remember hearing on the news that the storm cell was causing serious damage and moving south, heading for San Antonio. While that was going on there was another major system headed here from the west. It was also a pretty vicious storm and producing high winds, hail and heavy rain. Well as faith would have it, the two storms collided in what seemed to be 'my back yard' . . . actually the news reported that occurred around the Lackland AFB area, which was only a short distance from where I was living at the time. Anyway (and I said I'd keep this short . . . lol ) when those two brutes got here . . . needless to say, all heck broke loose. Obviously we lost power right off, so I lit a few candles and when it appeared the majority of the high winds eased up a bit, I opened the curtains on my patio doors and enjoyed one of the best light shows I'd ever experienced. Mother Nature is so amazing and can be very inspirational in so many ways :) When the power came back on . . . I heard the bad news about what all the storm had done and all I could think about was how lucky I was to still have a house with four walls and a roof in tact. The first thing I did after surveying the damages outside was to attempt to capture what I had just seen in my backyard - with a paint program I had just loaded on my PC. :) So there you have it . . . my first ever attempt at a "Digital Painting" and the story that goes with it . . . lol Normally I paint with Acrylics or Watercolor (check my home page if interested) but I just wanted to see what I could do with a digital paint brush using a mouse and all that inspiration. :) I'll attach a larger version of the image so you can see the details better. And also see it's not an actual photo. Have a great day and do a little rain dance where ever you need it! :) GD spelling correction This message was edited Jun 20, 2006 7:44 AM |
