However, even in the most ravished areas I notice that the live oaks have held their ground. If it were not for the live oaks, New Orleans would be naked at the moment. I would suggest, seriously, that anyone living in hurricane prone areas consider planting the live oak, Quercus virginiana. My suburban lot is only 60 x 120 but the live oak fits quite well on it. This photo was taken last year before Katrina. My gardens look a little raggedy now, so does my house. |
