I haven't seen any frogs or toads around in weeks, maybe months and we've had drought--only two or three days of rain in weeks, which is not normal for this area at this time of the year. Finally, we had a nice drenching, mini-monsoon that lasted about 24 hours. We could hear the toads all through the night, very loud. The next morning, I found over a dozen of them mating. Now my pond has strands of toad eggs wrapped around the plants. There's an incredible number of eggs. I am hoping that the ensuing tadpoles will help clean the pond water. |
