Heronswood, in my mind, set the standard for beautiful use of hydrangeas in a woodland setting. They had some climbing hydrangea species that were simply astounding, growing in pure shade. Here's one of the more unusual cultivars, a photo from last summer. I wish i had photographed the tag. Knowing I can't go back makes the fact that I accidently left my camera at home the last time i went just that much more grievous. You are so right, Alyrics, about not taking for granted the special plant places we find. I did spend money at Heronswood, as did many people.
