The most important thing is to be sure it's mulched over the winter to protect against thawing/freezing and that its roots are protected and watered occasionally if you don't get snow cover or rain in the winter. I have one large one in a pickle crock and another in a larger foam pot. For a few years I grew SA on my balcony railing.
