kmom246 wrote: So excited - they are starting to pop up out of the sand! This was one of the first ones up - a tan Blue Star (I. Tricolor); they were a little more maroon colored when they first came up, but now they are more deep green with the reddish veining. The Flying Saucer (I. Tricolor) tan seeds were next to germinate, then the Flying Saucer black seeds. Next are the Blue Star black seeds. One moonflower (I. Alba) germinated, but looks like it was eaten to a stump by something before the first leaves finished unfolding. Still waiting for other moonflowers to germ. The little guy in the picture took 5 days to germinate. Was planted in pretty much pure sand with slow release fertilizer nodules mixed in at 1/2 the recomended rate. They were soaked in plain water for 24 hours prior to being set out. Daytime highs in the mid-80s, night time lows in the high 40s and low 50s. Daily watering (the sand drains fast). At this point in time, 19 seedlings are reaching for the sun. Going to set out seeds for another 50 foot of chainlink tomorrow. Good by chainlink, hello morning glories! |
