SteveIndy wrote: Thanks cc, we had a mild winter too, but everything seems to be coming up OK. I am looking forward to seeing more of yours, and like you, I have stuff still emerging all over the place, and now even some lilies! They're like missiles popping up out of the ground. I am looking forward to seeing more of your pictures of your great landscape! You are near Chattanooga, right? No problem, vossner - I think you should try the Erlicheers. Another good daffodil through zone 9a is Carlton. Most of the daffs that do well way south are the smaller-flowered ones, but this is a big one. I also planted two small cluster- like tazettas - Grand Primo and Grand Monarque - though I did not get good pictuires of them this year and they're just finished blooming. Tazettas are probably better suited to a climate like yours than mine, because mine emerge so early that they tend to get frost-burnt and the foliage looks ratty, though they do bloom. Another tazetta I finally pulled out this year after four years for the same reason was Golden Rain - similar to Erlicheer but very yellow and a little taller - because they would always come up and bloom in January and even December, until the inevitable hard freeze came and destroyed them leaving a mess of ugly foliage. I should hve saved them and sent them to you because the bulbs were huge - if only I knew a couple of months ago that you liked daffodils!! If you are interested in my Grand Primo/Monarque, I will mail them to you (for free) after the foliage dies back. These are also both good through zone 9. Click on link below to see what they look like (I bought them from the fabulous Old House Gardens) http://www.oldhousegardens.com/bulb.asp?Cat=DA&page=4 Below is Carlton blooming now |
