"The Spirit of the Southern Garden"
Keynote speaker CAROL REESE opens the symposium by exploring various styles that define a sense of place for the Southern gardener. Carol hails from Jackson, Tennessee, where she works for the University of Tennessee Extension Service as an Ornamental Horticulture Specialist. She is a garden columnist, a speaker, and the co-host of a locally broadcast South Carolina television gardening show. Her talks are always informative and entertaining.

"Finding Your Niche"
Good plants for the Southern Garden KIM HAWKS is the founder and former proprietor of Niche Gardens, the reknowned national retail and mail order nursery in North Carolina. Her articles can be found in such respected horticultural publications as Fine Gardening, Herb Companion, NC Wildlife, and Carolina Gardener.

"The Healthy Southern Garden" From Start to Finish AMANDA CAMPBELL BRINER is the Manager of Outdoor Gardens at the Atlanta Botanical Garden, where she began her career in 2001. A graduate of the University of Georgia, Amanda previously worked as an intern at the Chicago Botanical Garden. She will instruct us on establishing and maintaining a healthy, happy garden.

"Southern By Design" JENKS FARMER is the designer and curator of several private gardens in South Carolina that include Moore Farms and a private Victorian era garden and cycad collection in Charleston; he also serves as consultant curator of Arcadia. With his family, Jenks runs Lush Life, a sub-tropical bulb farm. He will speak on the plants and design elements that traditionally define the Southern garden.

"A Walk in the Shade" Plants for the Southern Shade Garden Professor of Horticulture at the University of Georgia and award-winning lecturer and consultant, DR. ALLAN ARMITAGE is the author of six books and countless articles and papers. He has produced two CD-ROMs, The Interactive Guide to Herbaceous Perennials for PlantAmerica, and Allan M. Armitage's Photo Library of Herbaceous Plants. Dr. Armitage will present perennials suitable for shade in the Southern garden.
