I hadn't put the heater in yet (thank heaven) so I laid it on top of the whole mess last night because the leaf net was frozen into the ice. This morning there was a hole growing and by afternoon I could pry up the ice enough to slide the heater under the net. Amazingly, there were fish under the heater when I lifted it! Somehow they had wriggled through the holes in the net to snuggle under the heater. Now of course, they were on top of the net in about two inches of water. I'd no idea where I'd put my pond tools so all I could do was catch them in my hands and slip them under the ice at the edge to get them back in water. I'm sure they've been horribly shocked by all this but when I went out a few minutes ago to check and take a picture, by golly there they were, under the heater again. Tough little dickens! Of course the fountain is frozen solid, at least it won't work so something is wrong. I've unplugged it until everything thaws. If ever! LOL |
