These are all so beautiful they put our spread to shame. My grandma always used her pewter service and hobnail milkglass goblets for holidays. I really miss that. Howie's family was so large, they early on adopted a buffet style thing at holidays and kept things very simple -- paper plates and find yourself a place to sit (and don't get up or it might be gone when you come back!).

This year, though, we borrowed a table from his mom's church and put it end-to-end with our little dining room table. We were expecting 14 adults, but only 12 ended up eating here with us. I didn't have any tablecloths large enough for the banquet table, so we kind of improvised by putting two gold cloths down on the ends with a red cloth in the middle to cover the gap.

My centerpieces went by the wayside as we loaded the empty spots with pots of steaming mashed potatoes and stuffing, green bean casserole, cranberry-orange relish, rolls, and -- of course! -- turkey. It was SO nice having everyone seated at one table and talking, even if all our plates, flatware and glasses didn't match (let alone the chairs!).

Here's a long shot with my dad at the end. He's sitting, so where's the food already?? ;)

P.S. We put the tree up earlier than usual because some of the family who came here never come at Christmastime and don't get to see our house decorated. Normally we put it up the day after Thanksgiving.
