That photograph of the caterpillar with yellow filaments was taken on 09/17/05. Am assuming it was a queen since it was on milkweed. Or maybe a soldier...I need to look up a photo of a soldier cat...which I haven't done. This is my first time for raising BSTs. I found four cats on my rue plants last month and didn't want to risk them getting predated. I brought them inside and housed them in a large collapsible clothes hamper I'd bought just for them. Two have emerged - one on 09/30 and another 10/02. Another looks ready to make it's debut...I expect is shall eclose tomorrow morning or the next. I've never noticed their colors before...but did figure out the first one was a male and the second a female by their spots and coloring. I'm learning new things every day and frequently reference all the books I've bought :o) ~ Cat This is the male BST |
