That grows up from the roots and can be a distance from the main plant. It is identical to the mother plant. Suckers often make great standards. Sports can be suckers also. My Maya suckered a sport here in this picture. But because this particular sport is without chlorophyll it is not doing much. It is still alive but not growing at all. A spot is genetically different than the original plant that grew it. Lots of new plants are made from sports. The new Miner's Claim was a sport of Frosty. Lots of great coleus are from sports. |
