I posted this message in the Identification Forum, but no one has provided an answer so I thought I would try here with the lily lovers.

I purchased an Amaryllis bulb on eBay a few months back. The seller said it was Hippeastrum vittatum, the original Amaryllis from Brazil from which all other Amaryllis with varietal names were hybridized. Is this info correct? It doesn't matter to me greatly, but I don't want to misrepresent the plant in my discussion of it with other gardeners.

My queries using several search engines for "Hippeastrum vittatum" brings responses showing just about every variety of Amaryllis imaginable. One result discussed H. vittatum as having "vertical red stripes" and that certainly seems to apply to this Amaryllis (photo below).

Any assistance in verifying this as the "Mother of All Amaryllis" will be greatly appreciated!
