So the little Mill Bay ferry crosses deeper water than the big ferries that go between Vic and Van.

Apparently there is hardly any circulation in the deepest parts of the Saanich Inlet, so scientists study the water down there. Like those lakes (meromictic? I've forgotten the word) where there is no circulation. Here's a pic, for those unfamiliar with the area. Hard to believe that that tiny stretch of water between Mill Bay and Brentwood goes deeper than between Swartz Bay and Tsawwassen.
