Water Gardening: Fountain set up help needed, 1 by rcn48

Our plan is to have it set on a bed of stones so the stones will be 'wet' all the time. The vase is about 3.5' tall, 30" diameter, approximate capacity 40 gallons. What I need is specific information about how large a pump to 'lift' this amount of water and where to place the pump - in the bottom of the vase or propped up on a 'shelf' closer to the top of vase. Any suggestions?
