I don' know what it was this summer but I've had some really strange experiences with butterflies and moths landing on me or allowing me to get really really close.
Here's one example of a Tawny Emperor, the first time I had ever seen this species in my yard, and as I was walking in the driveway he landed right on my hand !

Yes, honored and ecstatic to say the least. I think any time a "wild" critter trusts you enough to get this close is a special treat.
