I plant my Impatiens in the back yard that gets morning sun for about 3 hours. By 11am, the sun has gone behind the house. I use Miracle-Gro Organic Raised Bed and Garden Soil in my garden and I mix in 1/4 peat moss, a small shovelful of vermiculite and 1/2 shovelful of worm casting when I plant the flowers. The first watering consists of root stimulator and fish emolument. Two weeks later, I start to feed them with a 10-10-10 fertilizer every 2 weeks and I water the soil around them every 3 days. My impatiens usually take off like a bat and grow to be 12-15\" tall even though they\'re not supposed to get that tall and they usually have loads of flowers. This year, the plants are still only 4-5\" tall and they have only a few flowers. I\'ve been spraying them with Bonide Infuse Systemic Disease Control and Bonide INFUSE Systemic Disease Control every 3 weeks (the instructions say every 2 weeks but I don\'t want to give them so much). The plants don\'t have a fungus nor are there bugs eating them. They look very healthy except that they\'re short, their leaves edges are curling, and they\'re producing very few flowers. I\'ve attached 2 photos. The first one was taken today of an Impatiens in my garden this year that shows stunted growth, few flowers, and curled leaves. The second one shows Impatiens in my garden last year that are full of flowers in June. Living in CT, I start planting on May 10 to avoid a nighttime freeze. What could be going on with my Impatiens this year. They\'re all doing the same thing. |
